Love Your Pelvic Health: Beyond Kegels, Embracing Relaxation and Care in February

As February unfolds, the world is awash with red hearts, roses, and sweet gestures. Love is in the air, and it's the perfect time to redirect some of that affection towards yourself. While you're showering love on others, don't forget about the love you owe your own body, especially when it comes to pelvic health. In this blog post, we'll explore the importance of caring for your pelvic region, dispelling the misconception that pelvic health is all about kegels. Instead, we'll delve into relaxation techniques, diaphragmatic breathing, safe products, hip-opening stretches, and the use of dilators to help you nurture your pelvic health this February.

The Importance of Pelvic Health

Your pelvic region plays a vital role in your overall well-being. It houses reproductive organs, supports your bladder and bowel, and is closely connected to your core strength and stability. Pelvic health is not only essential for your physical comfort but also for your emotional and sexual well-being.

Relaxation and Diaphragmatic Breathing

Contrary to popular belief, not all pelvic issues can be solved by strengthening. Often, the key lies in relaxation. Tension in the pelvic floor can lead to pain and discomfort. Learning to release this tension is crucial. One effective technique for achieving pelvic relaxation is diaphragmatic breathing.

Diaphragmatic Breathing Instructions:

  • Find a quiet, comfortable space.
  • Sit or lie down with one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen.
  • Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your abdomen to rise while keeping your chest relatively still. Look for your ribs to expand to the sides. It’s like you are filling a balloon in your belly.
  • Exhale slowly through your mouth, letting go of any tension in your pelvic area.
  • Practice this for a few minutes daily to promote relaxation.

Safe Products

When it comes to maintaining pelvic health, using the right products can make a significant difference. Opt for products that are free from harmful chemicals and are gentle on your delicate pelvic tissues. Look for options like V Magic’s pH-balanced cleansers (absolutely no Vagisil or Summer’s Eve) and organic lubricants, I love Good Clean Love’s water-based lubricants, to ensure your pelvic health is well-cared for.

Hip-Opening Stretches

Stretching is a wonderful way to release tension in the pelvic region. Hip-opening stretches can be particularly helpful. Yoga poses such as Butterfly (Baddha Konasana), Pigeon Pose (Eka Pada Rajakapotasana), and Child's Pose (Balasana) can work wonders in promoting flexibility and relaxation in your hips and pelvis.

Dilator Usage

For those who experience more persistent pelvic pain or discomfort, dilators, I love Intimate Rose dilators, can be a valuable tool. Dilators come in various sizes and are used to gently stretch and relax the pelvic floor muscles.

This February, remember to extend your love and care to your own body, starting with your pelvic health. Rather than focusing solely on kegel exercises, consider the importance of relaxation through techniques like diaphragmatic breathing, the use of safe products, hip-opening stretches, and, when needed, the incorporation of dilators. By taking these steps, you can help ensure that your pelvic health is at its best, allowing you to fully embrace and enjoy the love all around you.

Celebrate love in all its forms, including the love you show to yourself and your body. Your pelvic health deserves it!
